Neighborhood 3: Requisition of Doom
In a suburban subdivision with identical houses, parents find their teenagers addicted to an online horror video game. The setting? A subdivision with identical houses. The goal? Smash through an army of zombies to escape the neighborhood for good. But as the line blurs between virtual and reality, both parents and players realize that fear has a mind of its own.
Azuka Under Construction
In early 2011 we will launch an exciting new program entitled Azuka Under Construction. Each year a new work, whether it’s a play, a performance piece or a concept for a larger project will be given a ten day to two week workshop with actors, a director and a dramaturg. The inaugural project will focus on Xenophobia, or the fear of the outsider, and culminate in a special limited-run performance where your feedback has a direct impact on the development of the work!
The Terrible Girls
A wicked dark comedy of friendship, obsession and Southern sensibilities. Accidents seem to happen in the little diner off the interstate where three friends work together and keep a sinister secret. When one of them hides her own terrible secret from the others, everything begins to unravel. Presented as a one-act through our Spotlight Series: New Play Readings in 2009, we are thrilled to present the new full-length version from this Philadelphia Playwright.
Nerve
One man + one woman @ bar = First Date. A simple equation, so what could go wrong? In Adam Szymkowicz’s Nerve, well just about everything! From a too soon declaration of love to far too much information about past relationships, this ‘wickedly entertaining and darkly comic romance’ (OffOffOnline.com) allows us to eavesdrop on the early stages of what may or may not end up being the real thing. Throw in some interpretive dance and a wise cracking puppet and you have a ‘laugh out loud funny’ (The Gothamist) evening.
The Long Christmas Ride Home
One snowy Christmas Eve three children and their parents take an ill-fated ride to grandmother's house. In The Long Christmas Ride Home past and present collide in the back of the family sedan. The play offers brief, illuminating glimpses of the children's future lives, but always comes back to that one fateful night, the claustrophobic car, and the moment a family shattered. Combining superb storytelling, music and puppetry The Long Christmas Ride Home explores the fragile and fraying bonds of family.
